#CryptoRoundTableRemarks
What did Paul Atkins say at the latest roundtable on digital currencies for the SEC?
In a keynote speech at the latest SEC roundtable on digital currencies, Paul Atkins commented on the role of the commission in digital currency policy. He outlined three main areas for regulatory focus: issuance, custody, and trading.
Compared to his recent appearance at the roundtable in late April, Atkins provided insight into his ambitious agenda for digital currencies. With these priorities, it seems that the SEC will bring about a real shift in digital currency policy in the United States.
Paul Atkins' plans for the Securities and Exchange Commission
Earlier today, the SEC hosted its fourth discussion on digital currencies, which centered around tokenization. Its agenda had been announced for several weeks, and the commission published the full data of several members.
Hester "the mother of digital currencies" Peirce was enthusiastic, and Caroline Crenshaw expressed her usual doubts, while SEC Chairman Paul Atkins delivered a keynote speech:
"For the United States to be the 'capital of digital currencies on the planet' as envisioned by President Trump, the commission must keep pace with innovation. Rules and regulations designed for off-chain securities may be incompatible or unnecessary for on-chain assets and hinder the growth of blockchain technology," he claimed.
