Vitalik Buterin, the founder of Ethereum, proposed an important change: they are using the RISC-V system to run smart contracts instead of the current system. The goal? To make the network faster, cheaper, and more efficient. The idea is that RISC-V is an open and simple system that consumes fewer resources, benefiting users by reducing gas fees and supporting a larger number of transactions.
But the challenge is that there are old contracts written on the current system, so they propose a middleware layer to act as a translator so that everyone can benefit and existing applications won't be disrupted. If this step is taken, it could completely change the way Ethereum operates and open greater doors for the future.
