Ethereum's network was launched on July 30,2015, with the frontier release. The founders include: Vitalik Buterin, Gavin wood, Charles Hoskinson, Anthony Dilorio, and Joseph Lubin. Ethereum's development was crowdfunded in July- August 2014, with participants buying Ether tokens with Bitcoin.

Ethereum transitioned from proof-of-work to proof-of-stake in September 2022, reducing energy usage by 99%.
