$DOGE Jackson Palmer and Billy Markus created Dogecoin in 2013. They decided to come up with a humorous interpretation of altcoins, which were confidently gaining popularity among crypto speculators at that time.
Dogecoin was initially a meme coin that mocked the hype surrounding new altcoins that were emerging in the market. At first, Dogecoin had virtually no value, and it was used to reward users on social media and online forums, such as Reddit.
