Ukraine’s allies have rejected Vladimir Putin’s offer to hold direct talks with Ukrainian officials, saying the Russian president must first accept the US-backed ceasefire proposal.

Putin on Saturday proposed holding “direct talks” with Kyiv in Turkey on May 15. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky responded with trepidation Sunday, calling it a “positive sign” and saying that his country is “ready to meet” with Russian officials.
