Former Monero Developers Launch Tari: Private Blockchain with PC and Mac Mining
Developers behind Monero and its privacy coin XMR have launched a new Layer 1 blockchain, Tari, along with the Tari Universe app. It enables fast, private crypto mining on Mac and Windows PCs.
Users can download Tari Universe from the official website, install it, and mine XTM tokens using their computer's processing power. All Tari transactions are private by default, ensuring user data security.
Mining is gamified: proof-of-work appears as tower building. Each mined block earns XTM. Tari’s ASIC-resistant RandomX algorithm keeps mining accessible to consumer hardware. Users can adjust or pause mining with one click.
Over 700,000 users joined Tari’s airdrop during testing, and nearly 100,000 mined tokens on the testnet via Tari Universe.
Tari’s supply starts at 21 billion XTM, with 30% pre-mined. The remaining 14.7 billion is for public mining, with decreasing block rewards. A 1% tail emission supports long-term mining incentives.
Pre-mined tokens go to infrastructure (9%), community programs (5%), contributors (4%), and early participants (12%), with vesting starting 6–12 months post-mainnet.
Tari uses two tokens: XTM powers the base layer (Minotari), while XTR runs on the second layer (Ootle). Users can burn XTM 1:1 to mint XTR via Throttle, a mechanism adjusting cost based on demand. Burned fees regulate supply, and the XTM/XTR balance will tighten over time.
