British house prices experienced an unexpected increase in April, according to data released by mortgage lender Halifax.
The figures showed a 0.3% rise in house prices during the month, following a 0.5% decrease in March.
Before the release of these figures, economists had forecast a 0.1% decline in house prices for April.
