The Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC Meeting) is the event where monetary policymakers at the U.S. central bank (the Federal Reserve) gather to discuss the state of the U.S. economy and make important decisions, such as raising or lowering interest rates.

Why is it important?

Because the decision that comes out of the meeting can shake global markets! If they raise interest rates, stock markets might fall, and the dollar might rise. If they lower them, the opposite might happen.
