Ripple commits $25 million in stablecoin RLUSD to two non-profit educational organizations in the U.S. to address budget shortfalls and support teachers.

Ripple – the blockchain technology company behind XRP Ledger – has just announced a commitment of $25 million in Ripple USD (RLUSD) stablecoin to two non-profit educational organizations in the U.S. to help address budget shortfalls and enhance support for teachers and students in the K–12 education system.

The funding will be allocated to DonorsChoose and Teach For America, two prominent organizations in the field of supporting basic education, through the cryptocurrency donation platform The Giving Block. This is a specialized intermediary platform that processes crypto donations for charitable purposes, reflecting the increasing integration of digital assets into social sectors.

This move comes amid the challenges faced by the U.S. education system, particularly the severe resource shortages in public schools. According to a 2024 Gallup survey, up to 55% of parents and adults in the U.S. expressed dissatisfaction with the current quality of public education. Ripple believes that this result partly reflects the limits of budget and the lack of sustainable investment in education.

Alix Guerrier, CEO of DonorsChoose, stated: “Many teachers are spending hundreds, even thousands of dollars out of their own pockets to equip their classrooms properly. The funding from Ripple will help ease the financial burden and allow them to focus on their educational mission.”

Brad Garlinghouse – CEO of Ripple – expressed hope that this initiative will create a ripple effect in the business community: “We hope this action will inspire other organizations to join in, starting from Teacher Appreciation Week, to build a more sustainable future for teachers, students, and society as a whole.”

From Teach For America, CEO Aneesh Sohoni stated that the funding will help expand strategic programs such as Ignite Tutoring Fellows, promote innovative educational models through the Reinvention Lab, and strengthen the financial foundation for training the next generation of teachers.

Ripple's initiative is a typical example of the strong trend of charitable activities based on digital assets. In recent years, more and more organizations in the blockchain industry have participated in large-scale social activities. Notably, Changpeng “CZ” Zhao – the founder of Binance – has previously donated over $500,000 in crypto to support earthquake victims, while the Blockchain For Impact organization has committed $90 million for biomedical research.

The Giving Block – the platform facilitating donations in Ripple's initiative – forecasts that the total value of cryptocurrency donations could reach $2.5 billion by 2025. This figure indicates the potential of a new fundraising channel that is transparent, cross-border, and disruptive for global non-profit organizations.
