Cannes is actively adopting cryptocurrencies as a form of payment. By the summer of 2025, it is expected that approximately 90% of local businesses will accept payments in cryptocurrencies, such as Bitcoin and Ethereum. This initiative, led by the municipal government in collaboration with the Web3 payment company Lunu Pay, aims to modernize the city's commercial ecosystem and attract a clientele with high purchasing power and a penchant for technology.
The mayor of Cannes, David Lisnard, has strongly supported this transformation. In February 2025, he organized training sessions for local merchants and professionals with the goal of facilitating the integration of cryptocurrency payments.
Additionally, the Palais des Festivals et des Congrès, home to the renowned Cannes Film Festival, became the first convention center in France to accept payments in cryptocurrencies. This measure aligns with the city's Web3 strategy and its commitment to digital innovation.
