#EUPrivacyCoinBan EU will completely ban anonymous tokens such as ZEC, XMR… from 2027
The European Union (EU) is taking another step in its efforts to control the digital asset sector by preparing to implement a comprehensive anti-money laundering regulation (AMLR), focusing on a complete ban on privacy-enhancing tokens — also known as "privacy coins" — including prominent currencies like Monero (XMR) and Zcash (ZEC). Additionally, anonymous crypto accounts will also be absolutely prohibited starting in 2027.
In the first phase, AMLA will select 40 organizations – ensuring that each country has at least one organization under supervision – and this process is expected to begin on July 1, 2027. The selection will be based on several strict criteria, such as having a minimum of 20,000 customers in the host country or having total transaction volumes exceeding 50 million Euros (equivalent to approximately 56 million USD).
"Privacy coins" are a type of cryptocurrency designed to obscure information related to the sender, receiver, and transaction value to maximize privacy. However, due to their high anonymity, these tokens have repeatedly become targets of tightening regulations by authorities worldwide.
