#EUPrivacyCoinBan The European Union is moving to ban privacy coins and anonymous cryptocurrency wallets by July 1, 2027. This measure is a key component of the newly adopted Anti-Money Laundering Regulation (AMLR), with the goal of enhancing transparency and cracking down on financial crime within the crypto space.
Specifically, the upcoming regulations will:
* Prohibit crypto businesses from dealing with privacy tokens, such as Monero and Zcash, which are designed to conceal transaction details.
* Target anonymous crypto accounts and unverified transfer addresses, effectively eliminating avenues for anonymous cryptocurrency transactions.
* Leave no room for anonymity in cryptocurrency holdings and transactions within the EU.
Furthermore, the EU intends to:
* Identify and select up to 40 high-risk crypto asset service providers (CASPs) operating across at least six countries.
* Employ thresholds, such as having 20,000 or more customers or handling €50 million or more in transactions, to determine which CASPs will be subject to enhanced AML oversight.
These changes, set to be implemented by 2027 under the new Anti-Money Laundering Regulations (AMLR), signal a significant shift towards greater regulation and reduced anonymity in the European cryptocurrency landscape.
