Binance and the EU Privacy Coin Ban
In May 2023, Binance said it would stop offering 12 privacy coins—like Monero (XMR), Zcash (ZEC), and Dash (DASH)—to users in France, Italy, Spain, and Poland. This decision was made to follow EU rules that require exchanges to track crypto transactions.
But after getting feedback from the crypto community and the teams behind these coins, Binance changed its mind in June 2023. They decided to keep several privacy coins, such as ZEC, DASH, and PIVX, available for trading in those countries.
Still, not all coins were brought back. Some privacy-focused coins like Monero (XMR), Beam (BEAM), MobileCoin (MOB), Firo (FIRO), and Horizen (ZEN) stayed restricted because they offer strong privacy features that make tracking harder.
Then in February 2024, Binance fully removed Monero (XMR) from its global platform, saying it no longer met the exchange’s listing standards.#EUPrivacyCoinBan
