🌪 The court defended #Tornado Cash - sanctions from OFAC were recognized as illegal

The US Federal Court has permanently lifted sanctions on #Tornado Cash - the Treasury Department was officially told: the smart contract cannot be blocked because it... not property. It's not an organization, it's not a person, it's not a #company — it's code that works autonomously.

The court recognized that it is #impossible to punish a tool just because someone used it for other purposes. #Privacy is not a crime .

$OFAC accused #Tornado of laundering $7 billion, including $455M from #Lazarus hackers. But the technology remained beyond the accusations.

This is a precedent. Although another court (the 11th Circuit) previously upheld the sanctions, now the case may go to the Supreme Court.

Meanwhile, the DeFi Education Fund is calling on the White House to drop charges against Tornado co-founder Roman Storm, whose trial is scheduled for July. He is accused of "helping to launder money" by simply writing the code.
