Airdrops are sometimes used as a vehicle for scams.
Let's take a look at this:
Potential frauds:
- Fake airdrops, which allow creators to steal your information (passwords, wallet data, etc...)
- Phishing: a fraudulent link that takes you to a page resembling the intended airdrop (which is safe) and collects the data you provided
- Pump and Dump: creators with the airdrop increase demand and thus the value of the token, then sell their tokens to profit from this increase, but this leads to a drop in the token's value and those who benefited from the airdrop end up with worthless tokens...
- Upfront fees: individuals wishing to benefit from the airdrop are asked to pay fees beforehand, but the airdrop never takes place...
To avoid being scammed:
- If you are asked for your password, walk away
- Carefully check the URL of the airdrop page to confirm that you are on the right site
- If the promise is too good to be true, it is certainly a scam...
- Look for information about the creators, if you find nothing, walk away
- Do not pay upfront fees
