Paul Atkins, the chairman of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, has postponed three key applications for cryptocurrency exchange-traded funds, including the Franklin Templeton ETF for XRP, Fidelity's spot Ethereum ETF with staking features, and the Bitwise spot DOGE ETF.
Now, approval from federal regulators is required for the Franklin Templeton ETF for XRP decisions, in addition to the Ethereum and Dogecoin ETFs, by June 17, 2025, but there are still specific deadlines under review before mid-2025.
The SEC has maintained a cautious stance by extending the evaluation process due to regulatory hurdles it had to deal with.
The prolonged uncertainty created by the SEC may hinder institutional adoption of XRP, Ethereum, and Dogecoin, as well as their price developments in the market.
Prominent analyst James Seifart claimed that these delays were a typical protocol that would not lead to rejection, as the chances of approval remained strong by October 2025 or later.
