Trump lashed out at the head of Amazon
The White House took aggressive action against Amazon, and U.S. President Donald Trump called Amazon founder Jeff Bezos on Tuesday morning after the company considered displaying additional tariff costs on certain goods, CNN reports.
As the channel notes, Trump called Bezos to complain about reports that Amazon is considering displaying the cost of tariffs in the U.S. next to the prices of certain goods on the company's website.
The call came soon after one of the senior officials called the president to inform him about this story. 'Of course, he was furious,' one official told CNN. 'Why should a multi-billion dollar company pass costs onto consumers?'
At a briefing on Tuesday, White House press secretary Caroline Levitt called the move 'a hostile and political act,' adding that she had previously discussed the matter with President Trump. An Amazon spokesperson told CNN that this move 'was never considered for the main Amazon site, and nothing was implemented on any of the Amazon properties.' The company stated that it is considering 'the idea of listing import duties on certain goods' on its Haul site, which sells items for less than $20, but this change has not been implemented.
