High production costs, slow output, and low demand led to the experiment being quietly shut down. Currently, less than 5% of iPhone components are made in the U.S. Even when some glass is sourced from Kentucky, other components like touchscreen layers come from Korea, and chips are made in Taiwan by TSMC. While there’s been some small-scale testing of U.S. manufacturing in Arizona, the assembly line? Still 85% in China. Each iPhone is made up of 2,700 parts sourced from 187 suppliers in 28 different countries.
