The new shopping button for AI search queries will be available to everyone, regardless of whether they are logged in. Shoppers will not be able to complete transactions within ChatGPT; instead, they will be redirected to the merchant's website to finalize their purchases. Product recommendations shown to potential shoppers will be based on ChatGPT's memory of user preferences and product reviews sourced from across the web. An OpenAI spokesperson stated that the company will not earn affiliate marketing revenue from purchases made through ChatGPT.
