Ethereum researcher Dankrad Feist submitted the EIP-9698 proposal,
planning to increase the gas limit of the Ethereum 2.0 mainnet by 10 times every two years starting from June 2025,
in just 4 years, going from 36 million straight to 3.6 billion!
If everything goes smoothly, the theoretical TPS will increase to 2000 transactions per second,
which may truly solve the mainnet expansion issue!
Of course, there are also many challenges —
node operation pressure, block propagation delays, developer adaptation difficulties...
But with gradual progress and sufficient buffer, Feist believes the risks are manageable.
If gas is no longer a bottleneck,
the potential for Ethereum 2.0's growth will really need to be redefined.
