Meta laid off more than 100 employees due to restructuring of Reality Labs
The owner of Facebook, the company Meta, which is banned in Russia, laid off about 100 employees from Reality Labs, the division responsible for developing software and hardware for virtual and augmented reality. According to sources familiar with the situation, the cuts affected teams at Oculus Studios, the company that develops games for the Quest headsets.
Meta Platforms (NASDAQ:META) spokesperson Tracy Clayton acknowledged that the layoffs impacted projects such as Supernatural, a fitness VR game that the company acquired for over $400 million and successfully defended against an antitrust lawsuit from the government attempting to block the sale.
Meta Platforms representative Tracy Clayton also confirmed that there was a team optimization in some of the Oculus Studios teams.
