Why is Guangzhou called 'Yangcheng'🏙

Guangzhou is called Yangcheng because of the legend of 'Five Goats Presenting Rice'. It is said that during the Zhou Dynasty, Guangzhou experienced years of disaster, and the people could not meet their basic needs. One day, five colorful clouds appeared in the sky over the South China Sea, and five immortals dressed in colorful robes rode down on five celestial goats carrying rice sheaves in their mouths, descending upon Guangzhou. The immortals gifted the rice sheaves to the people of Guangzhou and wished for the area to never experience famine again. After that, the immortals flew away, and the five celestial goats transformed into stone goats that remained in Guangzhou. To commemorate this event, the city was named 'Yangcheng', and it also gained the nickname 'Suicheng'.

Wuyang New City is one of the earliest large residential communities built in Guangzhou after the reform and opening-up. Its name is derived from the legend of 'Five Goats' in Guangzhou, representing the inheritance and embodiment of this ancient tale. After the reform and opening-up in 1978, Guangzhou established Donghua Company to build Wuyang New City in the eastern part of the city, with the overall planning concept being 'modern style, Chinese charm, southern characteristics'. Once completed, Wuyang New City became a representation of Guangzhou's new residential communities, perfectly blending ancient legends with modern urban life!
