Young Hsu, the director of consumer surveys, stated that consumers have expressed increasing concern regarding developments in economic policy. She added: "The announcement was not enough to calm consumers' fears about the potential impact of trade policy on the economy."
Hsu further noted that this temporary halt has contributed to easing the pessimism regarding inflation expectations, which have improved slightly from their level earlier in the month. However, readings remain historically high. Consumers expect inflation to reach 6.5% over the next year, the highest level since 1981.
