#TariffsPause : Temporary Relief Amid Trade Tensions

On April 9, 2025, President Trump announced a 90-day pause on additional tariffs beyond the baseline 10% rate for most countries, excluding China, which faces a 145% tariff. This pause aims to facilitate trade negotiations, with Trump claiming over 200 deals in progress, though specifics remain undisclosed.

Despite this reprieve, Trump indicated that another 90-day pause is unlikely, signaling a potential return to stricter trade measures. The initial tariffs, announced on April 2, were part of a broader strategy to address trade deficits and perceived unfair practices.

The tariff policy has faced criticism for its economic impact. Analysts estimate that the tariffs could cost U.S. families an average of $4,600 per year. Additionally, the International Monetary Fund has downgraded global growth forecasts, citing trade uncertainties.

As the July deadline approaches, the future of international trade relations remains uncertain.
