#TariffPause
U.S. President Donald Trump has announced a 90-day delay in implementing most of his planned "reciprocal" tariffs, with the exception of those aimed at China. This move, made in early April 2025, is intended to give other countries additional time to negotiate more balanced trade deals.
Although Trump denied that the decision was influenced by market volatility, some officials within his administration indicated that rising U.S. bond yields and financial market instability may have factored in. Trump warned that if negotiations don't yield results, tariffs could still be imposed on certain nations within two to three weeks.
In response, China has raised its tariffs on American goods to 84%, intensifying trade tensions between the two global economic powers. While the pause offers a short window for potential diplomatic progress, the outlook for lasting trade stability remains unclear.
