According to the Investigative Committee of Russia (ICR), Lieutenant General Yaroslav Moskalik, senior commander of the General Staff, died on Friday (25.4.2025) due to the explosion of a car bomb. The attack took place in the courtyard of a housing complex built in the east of the Russian capital, specifically for retired military personnel.
Russian media provided images of the powerful explosion as the 59-year-old general passed by. "According to preliminary data, as a result of the explosion, Lieutenant General Yaroslav Moskalik was killed," said Svetlana Petrenko, spokesperson for the ICR, to local media.
Criminal Case for Murder
Moskalik, deputy chief of operations command of the Russian Armed Forces General Staff, died while passing by a Volkswagen Golf, in which an explosive device was detonated remotely.
"The cause of the explosion was an explosive device. Fragments of the device were found at the scene," a police source told the TASS agency.
Sources cited by another channel, BAZA, mention a gas cylinder as the cause of the explosion equivalent to 300 grams of TNT. The Investigative Committee has opened a criminal case for murder.
