Washington, D.C. — A senior U.S. customs official has been dismissed amid allegations of ties to the anonymous author of a 2018 opinion piece critical of then-President Donald Trump, according to a report by BlockBeats.
George E. Bogden, who was appointed earlier this year as Executive Director of the Office of Trade Relations at U.S. Customs and Border Protection, was unexpectedly asked to resign. The sudden move caught many within the administration off guard.
The 2018 op-ed, published anonymously by The New York Times, claimed internal efforts were being made to curb Trump’s more controversial decisions during his first term. It was later revealed that Miles Taylor, a former Department of Homeland Security official, authored the piece.
Authorities have not disclosed the evidence linking Bogden to Taylor, and the nature of their alleged connection remains unclear.
