What is Initia?

A blockchain platform designed to address the challenges of fragmentation in the multichain environment. Built using the Cosmos SDK, Initia integrates a Layer 1 blockchain that serves as a base chain with Layer 2 scalability solutions that form a network of interwoven modular rollups.

Initia leverages a dual-layer architecture:

Layer 1 (L1): Ensures data availability and chain coordination.

Layer 2 (L2): A customizable infrastructure called Minitias, which supports multiple virtual machines (VM) and application-specific logic.

High-Level Architecture

The architecture of Initia consists of three main components

Initia L1: The Initia L1 is the base layer and the central liquidity hub for all Interwoven rollups.

Interwoven Rollups: An ecosystem of blockchain rollups built on Initia L1.

Interwoven Stack: The Initia framework for building rollups and applications easily and seamlessly.



Initia L1 and Sacred Liquidity Consensus

The Initia L1 is the first chain of the Cosmos SDK that utilizes MoveVM and the Move smart contracts framework.

At the core of L1 is the Sacred Liquidity, an altered Proof of Stake consensus that allows liquidity denominated in INIT to be staked with validators to secure the network while acting as multichain liquidity.
