Back in late 2017, early 2018, I had no idea what I was doing — but I knew one thing: crypto had potential. And in finance, potential means money.
I remember thinking, “Maybe 10–20 years from now, we’ll be using coins like Dogecoin to buy food for our dogs.” Funny, right? But that was the spark.
Eventually, I made it to one exchange, pulled up the $DOGE chart, and felt like I had arrived. That feeling — like I was finally one of those people behind the screen.
After paying some fees, I grabbed 3,000 DOGE. I joked to myself, “Maybe I can stack a million of these. If DOGE ever hits $1, I’ll be a millionaire.”
Well, we all know how that turned out.
Back then, I was focused on simply owning coins — no leverage, just buying at market price and waiting for the next bullish cycle. That was it. Straightforward.
But now? I understand how I could’ve stacked more with the same capital by playing cycles strategically.
1. The Old Me vs. The Market Cycle Mindset
If you’re like the “old me,” you hold x amount of a coin, hoping it doesn’t go to zero — because that’s the game: as long as it doesn’t hit zero, there’s hope.
Well, not exactly. An asset by definition can approach zero, but it never truly gets there — and once it dips into the negative, it ceases to be an asset. It becomes a liability.
That old mindset works best when your time horizon is undefined — long-term, decades out, banking on eventual global adoption.
But now? The time horizon isn’t so vague anymore. Adoption is accelerating, and whatever the implications are, we just want to be positioned right when the time comes.
When you shift to a market cycle strategy, you’re operating on shorter timelines. This means your stop loss (SL) doesn’t have to be absolute zero anymore — it can be a more strategic level, based on price behavior on the weekly timeframe.
2. Using Weekly Levels as a New Stop Loss
This new SL gives us a buffer.
Now it’s not about watching your investment flirt with zero. You’re defining a level where the trade no longer makes sense in this cycle. And that changes the game.
That’s where leverage comes in and binance provides an excellent opportunity
Instead of going all-in on a spot buy, you use your capital as margin, apply leverage strategically, and protect your position just below your new SL.
3. Leverage Only Below the SL
Every time you increase leverage (1x, 2x…x), your liquidation point rises.
Keep adjusting until that liquidation level sits safely below your SL — that way, even if price dips during the cycle, your position survives.
And if the market plays out like you expect, you’re in prime position to ride the full swing.
Final Thoughts
This strategy takes technical awareness and discipline. But with a strong SL and proper risk management, you unlock more upside — using the same capital.
Personally, I think crypto gives you a tangible experience of trading and risk. When you own 200 or 300 tokens, you feel it. You internalize it. You’re not just staring at some “1.23445” readout like in other asset classes where the only difference is a slab of a position size and you feel your account evaporate before your eyes
It teaches you how to trade. It teaches you ownership. It teaches you patience.
