The US Highlights QRIS-GPN in Indonesia After Trade Tariff Negotiations.
The United States (US) has highlighted Indonesia's Quick Response Indonesia Standard (QRIS) following tariff negotiations with US President Donald Trump. The US notes this in the National Trade Estimate Report on Foreign Trade Barriers 2025.
The report emphasizes the role of QRIS and GPN in Indonesia, which restricts the operations of foreign companies. This is because Bank Indonesia (BI) applies a maximum foreign ownership limit of 20% for foreign companies.
The development of QRIS integrated with GPN is seen as disrupting US interests and becoming one of the obstacles to improving trade relations between the two countries.
Statista data shows that Visa's global market share decreased from 57.7% to 38.7% in 2022, and Mastercard dropped from 26.3% to 24% since 2014. Nevertheless, both recorded significant transactions, amounting to US$76.12 billion and US$72.6 billion in 2023, respectively.
