Report: The U.S. population aged 60 and above lost nearly $3 billion to cryptocurrency scams in 2024 According to the "2024 Report" released by the FBI's Internet Crime Complaint Center (IC3), in 2024, the U.S. population aged 60 and above submitted 33,369 complaints related to cryptocurrency scams, with total losses reaching $2.84 billion, accounting for more than 30% of the total annual losses from cryptocurrency scams of $9.3 billion. Overall, IC3 received a total of 149,686 complaints related to cryptocurrency throughout the year, an increase of 66% year-on-year. Investment scams and cryptocurrency ATM scams were the main methods, with losses of $5.8 billion and $247 million, respectively.
