Why shouldn't wealth be displayed?
Suppose your relative is in a desperate situation and needs 1 million. He knows you have tens of millions, and he can only morally coerce you (or even worse, directly kidnap you), because he has no better options. This is the easiest way he can think of. If you lend him 800,000, he will hardly feel any psychological burden; after all, 800,000 is a drop in the bucket for you. Even if he doesn’t pay you back, you won’t become poor because of it, and he won’t be overly grateful to you.
Even if you give him 3 million, he won’t escape poverty because of it. He will think, this is very normal; if he had tens of millions, he would also give you 5 million without blinking. You only gave him 3 million, which is clearly not enough; he doesn’t have the loyalty—however, he will console himself that not everyone in the world has the same sense of conscience and loyalty as he does.
Suppose he doesn't know you are wealthy, you can lend him 300,000, and he will be very grateful to you, treating you as a great benefactor. You could even pretend to gather some funds and help him raise 600,000, and from then on, his life will be yours.
This illustrates the difference between giving the initiative to others and keeping it for oneself.
