The Chinese ambassador to the United States, Xie Feng, urged Washington to seek consensus with Beijing and peaceful coexistence, but also emphasized that China is ready to respond amid escalating trade wars.

This comes at a time when Washington has intensified its trade war by announcing new tariffs on ships linked to China docking in the United States.

In remarks during a public event in Washington, details of which were published on the Chinese embassy's website, Xie stated that tariffs will destroy the global economy, and he compared them to the large tariffs imposed by the United States in 1930.
