According to local reports, tokenized financial assets exchange, Mesh.trade, has announced the launch of Bullion Krugerrand Tokens on its platform.
These tokens, issued by gold neobank, TroyGold, represent physical gold, securely stored in Brink’s vaults located in Johannesburg – a facility known worldwide for its high security.
Through tokenization, Mesh.trade enables investors to purchase fractional shares of a 1 oz Krugerrand coin, with a starting investment of just R5 ($0.27).
Each time you buy or sell a Troygold Krugerrand token on Mesh, a Gold Ownership Certificate is automatically generated and made available for download in your account. This certificate details the precise amount of gold you own, accurate to seven decimal places.
“All Troygold’s customers’ gold holdings are fully allocated, meaning you are buying either a whole or a fraction of an actual gold bullion Krugerrand,” Troygold and Mesh stated.
“Even if you purchase a fraction of a 1oz coin, you are allocated as a co-owner of a gold bullion Krugerrand coin securely vaulted at Brink’s.”
Mesh was awarded Category 1 and Category 2 Crypto Asset Service Provider (CASP) licenses by FSCA in 2024 becoming the first fully licensed issuance platform in Africa to tokenise financial assets.

According to the two firms, customers can access audited monthly reserve attestations, which outline the number of Krugerrand coins allocated to Mesh users and stored in the shared RMB and Troygold vault at Brink’s.
“All customer holdings are fully insured against loss or theft by Lloyds of London – the world’s leading specialist insurance provider and market,” Troygold said.
“As part of Troygold’s commitment to safety, only the vaulting custodian has physical access to the vault holdings. Thus, no Troygold or Mesh employee can enter the vault or access the holdings.”
Here is how the redemption process works:
Customers on Mesh.trade can redeem their tokens for physical Krugerrand coins at any time, provided they meet the minimum redemption requirement of one ounce of gold
Once an investor has accumulated a full ounce (31.1 grams), they have the option to keep their Krugerrand vaulted at Brink’s or inform Mesh of their intent to redeem it
Mesh will forward the redemption request to Troygold who will then reach out to the customer to co-ordinate secure home delivery of the Krugerrand
Tokenization is one of the popular blockchain applications being applied across Africa with various efforts taking off the ground in 2024.
