#TrumptaxCuts IMF Warns Negative Supply Shock Incoming, Forecasts ‘Significant Slowdown’ of Global Economy The International Monetary Fund (IMF) is forecasting a downturn for the global economy, largely driven by tariff-induced uncertainties. In its new World Economic Outlook Report, the IMF says that after enduring a “prolonged and unprecedented series of shocks,” the global economy appears to have stabilized. However, the IMF says the world’s financial landscape now faces significant risks as “uncertainties have climbed to new highs” due to President Trump’s threat to impose historically high tariff rates. Trump’s tariff agenda has prompted the IMF to revise “markedly” its forecasts for global growth compared to its last update in January. “For this reason, we expect that the sharp increase on April 2 in both tariffs and uncertainty will lead to a significant slowdown in global growth in the near term. While this is our central scenario— or ‘reference forecast’ — many possible paths exist, reflecting the unpredictability surrounding future trade policy and the varied impact of tariffs across different countries through a diverse set of channels… The common denominator, however, is that tariffs are a negative supply shock for the economy imposing them, as resources are reallocated toward the production of noncompetitive goods, with a resulting loss of aggregate productivity, lower activity, and higher production costs and prices. Moreover, in the medium term, by reducing competition, tariffs increase the market power of domestic producers, decrease incentives to innovate, and create multiple opportunities for rent seeking. For trading partners, tariffs constitute mostly a negative external demand shock, driving foreign customers away from their products, even if some countries could benefit from the rerouting of trade flows.” In anticipation of potential disruptions, the IMF says it has revised down its projection for global trade growth by 1.5%, with a “slight recovery” forecasted for next year. $USDC

#NorthKoreaHackers North Korean Operatives Create Fake U.S. Companies to Target Cryptocurrency Developers North Korean cyber operators registered two shell companies in the U.S. — Blocknovas LLC and Softglide LLC — using fake identities and addresses to bypass Treasury sanctions and target cryptocurrency developers with malware. According to cybersecurity firm Silent Push, the hackers are linked to a subgroup of the Lazarus Group, North Korea’s elite cyber unit under Pyongyang’s Reconnaissance General Bureau. The investigation also identified a third entity — Angeloper Agency — whose registration status remains unclear. "This is a rare case of North Korean hackers creating legitimate structures in the U.S. to attack unsuspecting job seekers," said Casey Best, Director of Threat Intelligence at Silent Push. The FBI confirmed that Blocknovas’s domain was used for posting fake job offers and spreading malware, emphasizing that these operations pose one of the most sophisticated persistent threats to the U.S. Hackers lured victims with fake job interviews to deploy malware and steal cryptocurrency wallets and credentials. North Korea continues to use cyberattacks to fund its economy and missile programs. The regime has also been linked to the massive Bybit hack, resulting in losses of approximately $1.5 billion. #scamriskwarning UN Says Crime Syndicates Expanding Into Crypto and Blockchain To Power Multibillion-Dollar Operations The United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) is warning that organized crime syndicates are increasingly leveraging cryptocurrency and blockchain technology to fuel their operations. According to a new UNODC report, gangs in Southeast Asia are creating tailored financial ecosystems, including unlicensed exchanges and stablecoins, to evade detection and launder illicit money. “…Many of the region’s largest criminal groups that have expanded within Southeast Asia and a growing number of jurisdictions in other parts of the world have rapidly diversified their business lines towards the development of key infrastructure. This has extended far beyond the construction and management of physical scam centers to include online gambling platforms and software services, unlicensed payment processors and cryptocurrency exchanges, encrypted communications platforms and, most recently, stablecoins, four blockchain networks, and illicit online marketplaces, often controlled by the same criminal networks.“ The UN also calls for international cooperation and stronger regulatory frameworks to combat and stem the growth of such groups. “The subtle and ongoing spillover creeping into other regions has allowed Asian crime syndicates to broaden the scope of their operations and target an increasingly diverse range of victim profiles and nationalities from around the world. More than this, it has allowed them to dramatically scale up profits and influence while simultaneously generating billions in illicit capital reserves (fiat and cryptocurrency) that can be reinvested into further expansion and also utilized to service the money laundering needs of other criminal groups globally.” More interesting news — subscribe
