#TrumpVsPowell TrumpVsPowell

President Donald Trump is ramping up pressure on Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell, accusing him of political gamesmanship and demanding an immediate cut in interest rates. Trump claims he has the authority to fire Powell, despite the fact that the law only allows for “just cause” such as misconduct or inability to perform duties. Powell, in turn, said that he would not resign at the request of the President and that his dismissal is not provided for by law .

At the same time, Trump is considering the candidacy of former member of the Board of Governors of the Fed Kevin Warsh to replace Powell. Warsh, known for criticizing excessive government spending and a proponent of central bank digital currencies, previously advised against firing Powell before his term ends in May 2026 .

The conflict raises questions about the Fed's independence and possible implications for financial markets. Experts warn that interference in the central bank's work could undermine investor confidence and cause economic instability .
