The ruble strengthened above 81 against the US dollar, reaching its highest level since June 28, 2024, Reuters reports.

The rise in the Russian currency is primarily due to the increase in oil prices, the agency notes.

Earlier during the session, the ruble rose by 1.5% to a level of 80.90 against the American currency amid low trading activity ahead of the Orthodox Easter holiday. Oil prices increased by 3% on Thursday and gained about 5% over the week.

The Russian currency has risen by more than 40% against the dollar since the beginning of the year, mainly against the backdrop of expectations of easing tensions between Russia and the United States.

The ruble ignored US Secretary of State Marco Rubio's statement that Trump would cease attempts to conclude a peace agreement between Russia and Ukraine in the coming days if there were no clear signs of a deal.
