The Ministry of Finance of Slovenia is seeking public opinion on a draft law imposing a 25% tax on profits from cryptocurrency transactions, effective from January 1, 2026, if approved. The tax applies when converting crypto to fiat currency or paying for goods, but does not apply to crypto-crypto transactions or internal wallet transfers. Citizens must keep records for annual tax declarations.
The Finance Minister stated that not taxing cryptocurrencies is "illogical," while MP Jernej Vrtovec warned that high taxes could drive young people and capital abroad. The bill will be consulted until May 5.
