Slovenia Proposes 25% Capital Gains Tax on Crypto for Individuals
Slovenia's Ministry of Finance has opened a public consultation on a draft law that would introduce a 25% tax on profits from cryptocurrency sales by private investors. The proposal, published on Thursday, seeks to close a loophole in the current tax framework, which only applies to business-related crypto transactions while exempting individual investment activity.
The public has until May 5 to submit feedback on the measure. Should the legislation pass parliamentary approval, the new tax regime would become effective on January 1, 2026.This move aligns Slovenia with broader EU efforts to standardize cryptocurrency taxation policies.
