#PowellRemarks SUMMARY OF FED CHAIR POWELL'S STATEMENT (04/17/2025):
About the economy 🇺🇸:
- The Fed is in a good position to wait for more clarity before considering any policy changes.
- The Fed's two goals of controlling inflation and maintaining low unemployment are currently not in conflict, but the current trend is that both unemployment and inflation may rise.
- Don't expect the Fed to rescue the market as Trump's policies are changing daily.
- If high tax levels continue to drive up consumer prices and weaken economic activity, the Fed will face a dilemma in having to choose between two goals: controlling inflation and supporting the labor market.
Overall, the Fed believes the economy is still strong enough to be patient for clearer signals. Mr. Powell did not provide any indication of the direction of interest rates, did not say rates would be cut soon, but also did not rule out the possibility of a cut this year.
