Japan's Metaplanet invests another $26.3 million to buy BTC! Current Bitcoin holdings rise to 4,525 coins
Japan's publicly listed company Metaplanet has once again purchased 319 BTC at an average price of $82,549 per coin, with a total investment of approximately $26.3 million. This latest investment has increased its total Bitcoin holdings to 4,525 coins, valued at approximately $386.3 million based on current market prices, successfully placing it among the top 10 publicly listed companies in the world by Bitcoin holdings.
This Tokyo Stock Exchange-listed firm has been employing a multi-faceted strategy since 2023 to continuously increase its Bitcoin holdings, including direct market purchases, using cash-secured put options and other financial instruments, as well as financing through capital markets to expand its purchasing power.
Metaplanet has also innovatively established the "BTC Yield" metric to track investment performance, which reached an astonishing 309.8% in the fourth quarter of 2024. The company's CEO, Simon Gerovich, revealed that their goal is to hold 21,000 Bitcoins by 2026, which would account for 0.1% of the total Bitcoin supply.
To achieve this ambitious plan, the company has even invited Eric Trump, the son of Donald Trump, to join its strategic advisory board. This cryptocurrency supporter has publicly praised Bitcoin as "one of the greatest stores of value."
While Metaplanet continues to accumulate, the Bitcoin market has also demonstrated a degree of resilience. Although the current price of $85,084 is down about 22% from its historical high, it has still risen over 10% in the past week. Additionally, Bitcoin's market capitalization holds a dominant position at 63.76%, far exceeding Ethereum's 7.43% share.
Conclusion:
Metaplanet's significant investment not only highlights Bitcoin's safe-haven properties amid current global economic uncertainty but also reflects market recognition of the long-term value of digital currencies.
As the integration of traditional finance and the cryptocurrency market deepens, Metaplanet's actions may signal a new trend in corporate asset allocation.
However, the high volatility of the Bitcoin market cannot be overlooked, and how to balance risk and reward in the future remains an important issue for companies.
