The total amount is £752 million ($990 million), which will be used to purchase air defense systems and artillery.
UK Treasury Secretary Rachel Reeves said in March that the loan would amount to £2.26 billion ($3 billion). The agency noted that the first tranche was disbursed on March 6 and the final tranche is expected to be disbursed next year.
In October 2024, G7 leaders agreed to provide Ukraine with a $50 billion loan using the interest earned from frozen Russian assets. The United States committed to sending $20 billion, with the remainder coming from the G7 and the EU. Following this move, Russian Presidential Press Secretary Dmitry Peskov stated that Russia would take legal action if the proceeds from its assets were used for Ukraine.
The United Kingdom has frozen £25 billion ($33 billion) of Russian assets since Russia began its special military operation in February 2022.
