China is not backing down after the measure by US President Donald Trump to impose a 145% tariff on the country. On Sunday, China's Ministry of Commerce responded, stating that the United States should rethink what it called the "wrong" approach—urging Washington to "completely cancel" the tariffs unequivocally.

China's Foreign Ministry Warns: Americans Will Pay the Price for Trump's Trade Measures

After a tumultuous week in the markets, China is ramping up the pressure—demanding that the US eliminate its newly imposed tariffs once and for all. It all started on April 2 when Trump announced reciprocal tariffs of 10% that affected over 100 nations, with some facing even higher rates. A week later, on April 9, Trump paused the tariffs for 90 days—but left China out of the deal. By the end of the week, China's tariff rate had increased to 145%.

China wasted no time in responding. On Saturday, April 12, Beijing raised its retaliatory tariffs on US products to 125%. Meanwhile, the Trump administration announced a pause on tariffs for consumer electronics this weekend. But US Secretary of Commerce Howard Lutnick warned that the relief may be temporary, stating that these products could still be affected next month.
