Protecting Yourself in Crypto

The crypto world seems to have all kinds of potential. But it's filled with scammers. I once almost fell for a project that offered insane APY gains. All the marketing looked nice but once I did some investigating I realized the following: anonymous team, no audit reports and a very aggressive marketing campaign. Turns out it was a rug pull and that lesson learned, always DYOR—Do Your Own Research.

Now I check if this token is listed on trusted exchanges such as CoinMarketCap, check if the project is audited via CertiK, look for the community sentiment on Reddit or X (formerly Twitter). I also don’t click on links or DMs that look (from their description) fake. I’m leery of “guaranteed profits” for example.

Red flags to watch out for are bogus endorsements, unrealistic promises, pressure to act quickly, and lack of transparency. The best thing in crypto is if it sounds too good to be true—it usually is. Be smart, trust your gut, and always check credentials first.
