The price of Bitcoin last dropped by 6% to reach $77,730.03, according to Coin Metrics, after trading above the $80,000 level for most of this year, except for some minor dips below it amid recent volatility. It has decreased by 28% from its all-time high in January.
The leading cryptocurrency is typically traded like a stock of major technology companies, and traders often view it as a key indicator of market sentiment, but it resisted the broader market collapse last week, stabilizing between $82,000 and $83,000, and rose by the end of the week, even as stocks and gold fell.
Other cryptocurrencies suffered larger losses overnight. The price of Ethereum
and the currency linked to Solana
dropped by about 12% each.
