In a landmark move to bolster its position in the digital finance arena, Pakistan has appointed Changpeng Zhao, commonly known as "CZ" and the co-founder and former CEO of Binance, as a strategic adviser to the Pakistan Crypto Council (PCC). This appointment, announced on April 7, 2025, underscores Pakistan's commitment to integrating blockchain technology and digital assets into its financial landscape.

CZ's tenure at Binance was marked by rapid growth and innovation, establishing the platform as a global leader in cryptocurrency exchanges. However, his leadership also faced challenges; in November 2023, he resigned as CEO after pleading guilty to violating the American Bank Secrecy Act, resulting in a four-month prison sentence served in 2024.

Despite these past controversies, Pakistan's Finance Minister, Muhammad Aurangzeb, expressed confidence in CZ's expertise, stating that his deep understanding of the crypto ecosystem will be invaluable in formulating policies that balance innovation with regulatory safeguards.

CZ's role will involve advising on the development of a robust regulatory framework for digital assets, fostering innovation, and ensuring that Pakistan remains aligned with global best practices in the rapidly evolving crypto sector.

This strategic appointment signals Pakistan's intent to become a significant player in the global digital economy, leveraging the expertise of seasoned industry leaders to navigate the complexities of cryptocurrency integration and regulation.
