Yesterday the Web3 Hong Kong Carnival just started, but there was a big drop in the early morning today. What is the significance of this conference?
A friend excitedly went to the conference this morning, but left by noon. The venue was incredibly quiet, with basically no one looking at the project booths, and the VCs also showed little interest. Instead, exchanges and some industry "big shots" became the main characters, turning the whole venue into a business networking hub, with KOLs and influencers taking photos everywhere.
To be honest, what help do such events provide for industry development? From the very beginning, the push for Web3 in Hong Kong has made people nervous. The competition for Web3 in Asia is so fierce now, with Dubai and Singapore sprinting ahead, while Hong Kong always seems to have a lot of noise but little substance. They say they want to develop Web3, but the policies are still restrictive, and licensed exchanges haven't really achieved much.
Ironically, just as the Hong Kong conference is wrapping up, the Dubai Token2049 is about to kick off. With conferences happening one after another, aside from letting the big shots socialize, where is the actual push for the industry?
