Donald Trump has warned China that if it does not withdraw its 34% retaliatory tariffs on US imports by Tuesday, the US will impose an additional 50% tariff on Chinese goods starting Wednesday. The move would bring the total US tariff burden on Chinese products to 104%, including previously enacted levies.

Trump called China the “biggest offender” and said its markets were already declining despite Beijing’s countermeasures. He also made clear that no new negotiations with China are planned.

The announcement has rattled global markets, with fears of rising inflation and slowing growth, according to US Fed Chair Jerome Powell.
