Providing a Full Meal for 400 Dogs on a Mountain in Weinan, Shaanxi 🐶🥣
Dear Broccoli Community Members,
On the western outskirts of Weinan, Shaanxi, nestled halfway up a mountain, lies a small, nearly forgotten shelter. No humans reside there—only over 400 stray dogs, many of whom are elderly, weak, or suffering from illnesses. To prevent trampling, they are housed in dozens of enclosures made of brick walls and iron fences. Some rain shelters have also been set up to provide protection from the elements during harsh weather.
Caring for them are two elderly women, one 80 years old and the other 70. Every day, they cook over a wood fire, feeding the dogs on a simple diet: one meal of steamed buns and one meal of dog food. They rarely use electricity, as the high cost is beyond their means.
These women ask for nothing in return. They simply do their best to give these abandoned lives one more day—one more chance to wait for a potential adopter.
This time, we plan to donate $1,150💰.
This donation will be used to purchase dog food from a long-term supplier the caregivers trust. Due to transportation difficulties, the food will be packaged in 10kg bags, making it easier for daily handling and storage. We will ensure that the supplies reach the shelter.
