US President Donald Trump unveiled a "golden card" worth 5 million dollars featuring his image, which wealthy foreigners can obtain.
This was reported by The New York Post, as noted by "European Truth."
Trump proudly showcased to reporters aboard his Air Force One plane the design of the new "golden card," which features his face.
Back in February, Trump announced plans to start selling "golden cards" that would offer privileges to foreigners with "deep pockets." At that time, Trump mentioned that Russian oligarchs could gain the right to purchase such a card.
"For 5 million dollars, it can be yours. This was the first of the cards. Do you know what kind of card this is? This is a golden card, Trump's card," said the US president to reporters.
The "golden card" program proposed by Trump will grant residency rights in the US to individuals who invest 5 million dollars in the country.
Trump claimed that he became the first buyer of the card and explained that it would likely "come out in less than two weeks."
The foundation of the "golden card" system is the update of the EB-5 visa program, which provides foreign citizens who invest about 1 million dollars in the US with the opportunity to obtain a green card, which differs from a visa in that it allows for permanent residency and opens the way to citizenship.
Unlike certain visas that tie foreigners to specific jobs, green cards give migrants flexibility in choosing their place of employment.
The "golden card" initiative, announced as part of a broader immigration system reform, indicates that the US president is focusing on investment-oriented immigration. Proponents argue that it could bring significant capital to the US, while critics say the priority should be attracting skilled talent.
